body as a starting point

My interest has changed from the very specific to the more general idea. My work and research in the last few weeks was focused on topics and layers of information that lie behind the mere visibility, the additional depth that is added trough consequent usage and interpretation. I finally reached a point where I decided to get rid of everything that might blur my vision. The crucial points of the castration project were masculinity and power. Now I stripped it down to the very starting point (actually the starting point for so many things): the body itself.

To what extent can a body be considered as matter, how can it be manipulated, adopted, used? Is my own body an object I can perceive without subjectivity and is there a neutral body at all? What happens if one tries to get rid of sociocultural connotations and personal association? Is this rather an abstraction or concretisation? The means of distortion seem to be of interest, since they allow working with the same material but forcing it into a new shape. It is an act of destruction and creation at the same, allowing to see the distorted element in a new context.
